Case Study: Austin Avenue, Waco, Texas

In the late 1980s, a Waco, Texas city council member famously and publicly declared downtown Waco “brain-dead.” For decades Austin Avenue, the City’s main street, was populated with vacant buildings and little else.

Under Chris’ leadership an effort to revitalize the heart of the city was realized, beginning with Austin Avenue.  In just a few years, the five block Austin Ave. corridor has been transformed into a bustling hub of 18 hour days. Restaurants, specialty retail, lofts and new office have replaced the boarded up facades and all but two buildings have been renovated, changed hands or otherwise brought back into useful purpose.

Chris has advised developers and business owners associated with the redevelopment of dozens of commercial and mixed-use projects on Austin Avenue and beyond. Projects of note that Chris has assisted with:
